CORONAVIRUS; BREAK THE CHAIN, WHAT EVERY APARTMENT RESIDENT NEEDS TO KNOW?<

Coronavirus is threatening human existence for the past three months. The influence of the virus has started appearing in Kerala also. Being self-aware and breaking the chain will help to stop the spreading of the virus from person to person. Following a strict code of conduct in personal and house hygiene and you can prevent yourself and your family from the pandemic.

Health measures to practice at home:

  • Keep your home tidy and hygiene. You must keep yourself and your living environment clean.
  • Parents, make sure your kids follow strict self-hygiene practices.
  • While preparing food at home, thoroughly wash and cook the meat. This helps in preventing other contagious diseases as well.
  • Try not to invite social visitors into your home for a while. You can use the phone and other means to be in contact with them.
  • While doing laundry, keep in mind that, don’t shake dirty laundry, as this can disperse the virus through the air.
  • Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community.

Things to avoid while you’re working from your apartment;

  • Avoid using the swimming pool: You may not know what others are carrying to the pool.
  • Place a sanitizer in lifts or carry one to use after touching the buttons or touching the stair rails.
  • Avoid going to the gym. Your apartment has plenty of space, you can do exercises in your home for a while.
  • Avoid visiting the common areas and children’s play areas. You can engage your kids with indoor games, books, and other activities.
  • Importantly, try not to conduct association meetings and larger get-together or celebrations.

Get your household ready

In the coming days, you must be spending most of your time at home and the social contact to the outside will be shortened. These are some tips to consider getting your home ready to prevent any sort of disease:

  • Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Clean and disinfect the frequently touched surfaces, daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, computers, phones, keyboards, sinks, toilets, and countertops.
  • Have a supply of food staples and household supplies like laundry detergent and bathroom items, and diapers if you have small children.
  • Check to make sure you have at least a 30-day supply of your prescription medications and have other health supplies on hand, including pain relievers, stomach remedies, cough, and cold medicines, fluids with electrolytes and vitamins.
  • As per government orders, the schools and daycares will have remain closed until further notice. So make a friendly environment for your children to stay at home.
  • Create a plan in the event of any closings, event cancellations or postponements.
  • Give special care to the elderly ones in the home.
  • Help family members and neighbors get prepared and share the safety messaging with those who may not have got it yet.

While we need to be cautious, it’s important not to panic. Taking preventive measures are important not just for your own safety but to the larger well-being of the society, economic welfare and social harmony. Let’s stick to the code of conduct suggested by the officials to break the chain.
